General map of Spain (1802)

This map was created by Spanish cartographer Tomás López de Vargas Machuca in 1802 and published posthumously by his sons in the “Geographical Atlas of Spain” from 1804. The map depicts the entire Iberian Peninsula, along with the Balearic Islands, and completes the task of mapping the whole of Spain.

This map brings together all the information compiled between 1765 and 1798 by Tomás López during the years he spent mapping the different provinces. It also uses the historical regions of Andalusia, Old Castile, New Castile and the Kingdom of León (as they were popularly conceived in the second half of the 19th century) to group some of the provinces together.
