The Nile River is the largest in Africa and the second longest in the world. From its source in Lake Victoria to its mouth in the Mediterranean Sea, it covers a distance of 6,853 kilometres. Its hydrographic basin covers a total of 3,254,555 square kilometres. Along its course, it passes through several major cities such as Khartoum, Aswan, Luxor and Cairo.
