The latest territorial changes of the 19th century that it reflects include the unification of Italy (1870), the unification of Germany (1871) and the reorganisation of the Balkans after the Treaty of Berlin (1878), which led to the emergence of the independent states of Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, as well as the autonomy of Bulgaria within the Ottoman Empire.
