Political map of Europe (1700)

This detailed map, created in 2023 by Gustav Ståhlberg, shows the political situation in Europe in the year 1700.

This year marks the beginning of the Great Northern War, which will pit the Swedish Empire against the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Denmark and Norway for the next 21 years, bringing an end to Swedish supremacy in the region. In the Balkans, the Habsburg Empire had already halted the advance of the Ottoman Empire, which remained in place with territorial gains in Hungary and Morea after the end of the Great Turkish War, which ended in 1699.

The map shows the Holy Roman Empire, marked with a red line, which at that time was under the rule of Emperor Leopold I.
