Political map of Europe (1600)

This detailed map, created in 2023 by Gustav Ståhlberg, shows the political situation in Europe in the year 1600.

The Long War was currently pitting the Ottoman Empire against the Habsburg Empire, which had the support of the Holy League, in an attempt by the Pope to expel Muslims from Europe. On the other side of the continent, the Eighty Years' War was being fought, in which the Netherlands region was fighting against the Spanish Empire for its independence. In the British Isles, the Tyrone Rebellion sought to liberate Ireland from English rule.

The map shows the Holy Roman Empire, marked with a red line, which at that time was under the rule of Emperor Rudolf II.
