This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents the population density in the world using a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence has extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.
This world map quickly shows that the highest population density is found in East Asia, Hindustan, Europe and specific regions of North America, South America, Africa and the Middle East. It is also easy to see how much of the earth is practically deserted.
