Population density of Africa (2023)

This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents the population density in Africa using a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.

This map of Africa quickly shows that the highest population density is found in the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Asia, Egypt and the entire eastern part of the continent. It also clearly shows the depopulation of the Sahara and Kalahari deserts, as well as the sparse population in the tropical rainforests.
