Population density of Russia (2023)

This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents Russia's population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.

Unlike other maps by Terence Teo, this map of Russia includes the outline of the entire territory. This is necessary in order to appreciate the vast region in northern Asia that is completely unpopulated, except for a few settlements. This allows us to appreciate the large demographic weight of the European part of Russia, where its two main cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg, are located. More than 75% of the country's population is concentrated in this region, with the other demographic centre in central Asia, with cities such as Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk and Chelyabinsk.
