This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents Australia's population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.
This map of Australia shows the different population peaks in the few populated areas of the country, mainly around its large urban centres: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Perth and Darwin. The interior of Australia is largely unpopulated, as can be seen on the map. Alice Springs, the only significant town in the interior, has a population of just 25,000.
