This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents the population density of El Salvador on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.
This map of El Salvador quickly shows that the highest population density is found around the capital, San Salvador.
More peaks can be seen in other cities, even though they are not labelled on the map. The three peaks to the west of the capital (from west to east) correspond to Sonsonate, Santa Ana and Santa Tecla. To the west, the peak that appears in that sparsely populated area corresponds to the city of San Miguel.
