This map, published by the National Geographic Institute of Costa Rica in 2021, shows the territorial administration of the country.
The map shows the country's seven provinces in different colours: San José, Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón. In addition, on the left-hand side there is a detailed map of Cocos Island, located in the Pacific Ocean, 532 kilometres from the coast.
Thanks to Cocos Island, Costa Rica has an important maritime claim in the Pacific Ocean, as shown on the map in the lower left corner.
