This pictorial map of Costa Rica was published in 1967 by the Promotion Department of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.
The aim of the map was to promote tourism in the country, with a series of illustrations showing some of the most characteristic features of each region. Nature tourism was not yet very popular, but Costa Rica's beaches were, as can be seen on the map with the crowds of bathers appearing at the most popular tourist spots on the country's coastline.
The map also includes major roads and railway lines, as well as a map showing available air connections in the top left-hand corner.
