Topographical map of Gaza, Palestine (1826)

This map was published by Pierre Jacotin in 1826 as part of an atlas commissioned by the French army with the title: Topographical map of Egypt and several parts of neighbouring countries (Topographical map of Egypt, its parts and neighbouring countries).

This map from the atlas covers the Gaza Strip, as part of Palestine. In 1826, the area was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, although it had faced invasion by Napoleon in the early 19th century, which led to the destruction of much of the region and the departure of many of its inhabitants.

The map shows the topography, with several rivers flowing into the Mediterranean Sea and several hills in the Gaza area. The map's spelling and place names are written in French and Arabic.
