The major religions of Africa (2024)

This map, created by The World in Maps in 2024, shows the majority religion in each African country.

The map shows that there are three religions that are the majority in some African countries:

  • Islam (in green): the majority religion in North Africa.
  • Christianity (in yellow): the majority religion in southern Africa.
  • Hinduism (in red): the majority religion in Mauritius.

Eritrea is the only country with a similar population of Christians and Muslims, which is why it is shown with bands of both colours.
