School enrolment in Africa (2024)

This map, created by Landgeist in 2024, shows the projected school enrolment figures for each African country, based on data published by the United Nations Development Programme in 2021.

The author uses a colour scheme ranging from yellow to dark blue, via green, to illustrate the expected years of schooling in each country. At the top of the scale are Tunisia (15.4 years), Mauritius (15.2) and Algeria (14.6). At the other end of the scale are South Sudan (5.5 years), Niger (7.0) and Mali (7.4).

The data take into account the expected enrolment if school attendance ratios and legislation regarding compulsory education did not change in the different countries. These figures only assess years of schooling and have no direct correlation with the quality of education in each country.
