This map was drawn in 1867 by Prosper D'Albenas, an officer in the French Navy. It shows the city of Montevideo, its surroundings, and the nearby towns of Cerro and La Victoria.
The map shows how the old city was already fully built, as were the towns of Cerro and La Victoria. It also shows the various roads that connected the towns around the city, which is where it would expand in the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century. Some of these villages, such as Tres Cruces, Paso del Molino and Reducto, retained their names as districts within the metropolitan city of Montevideo.
