The countries of the League of Nations (1921)

This map, created by Funk & Wagnalls for the American magazine Literary Digests, shows the newly created League of Nations.

The League of Nations or League of Nations was created under the Treaty of Versailles. It was one of the first international organisations that, among other objectives, sought to promote peace and cooperation between different countries. In its early days, it secured the collaboration of a large number of nations, although some stood out for different reasons, such as Russia, Germany and the United States.

This map published by Literay Digests seeks precisely to show US citizens that the fact that the United States did not want to join the organisation left the country outside a majority group. To highlight this difference, the authors mark all the members of the League of Nations in green and also place green lines and dots on the various colonial dependencies of all the European powers.
