This map was published in October 2025 on the cover of the German magazine Katapult.
With the title How much territory has Russia occupied in Ukraine?, The cover aims to raise awareness about the extent of Ukrainian territory currently occupied by Russia. Given that the figures, 114,500 km², are often insufficient, the authors have decided to accompany them with maps of fifteen other countries to illustrate how much territory this actually represents:
- In Germany, the territory equivalent to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony.
- In Spain, the territory equivalent to Galicia and Castile and León.
- Almost four times the size of Belgium.
- One and a half Portugals.
- In the United States, the state of Pennsylvania.
- In France, the former regions of Rhône-Alpes and Burgundy.
- In Greece, the entire territory except Western Macedonia.
- In Russia, only the equivalent of the oblasts of Kursk, Belgorod, Oryol, and Bryansk.
