Political map of the Maldives (2020)

This map, created by Reddit user Dragonite-2, shows the administrative organisation of the Maldives.

The Maldives is a country in the Indian Ocean, about 425 kilometres south-west of India. It consists of 26 atolls and 1,192 islands, of which only 200 are inhabited. It is the smallest country in Asia and the second least populated, behind only Brunei.

This map shows the administrative division of the country, with 18 atolls, 189 islands and 4 cities. The main cities are marked in yellow, and the country's airports are marked in purple. The vast majority of islands are only accessible by boat.

In addition, there is also a map of Malé, the country's capital, with the city's four neighbourhoods coloured in different shades. The legend also helps to locate some of Malé's most important places, such as schools (dark blue), parks (turquoise), mosques (dark green) and hospitals (pink).

Interestingly, Malé is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with more than 200,000 inhabitants living in just 6 square kilometres, representing 40% of the Maldives' population.
