This map, created by Mohonu for Wikimedia Commons in 2007, shows the Chagos Archipelago.
The Chagos Archipelago is a group of atolls, islands and reefs located in the Indian Ocean, 500 kilometres south of the Maldives. It is currently administered by the United Kingdom as part of the British Indian Ocean Territory, although it is claimed by Mauritius, which has greater international support.
The map shows the complexity of this archipelago:
- In blue, all reefs between 2 and 20 metres deep are shown, as well as the atolls they form.
- In green, the shallow reefs, less than two metres deep.
- In yellow, the mainland, among which Diego Garcia Island stands out as the most important in the archipelago.
