Scandinavian Airlines air routes (1960)

This map, published around 1960, shows the routes operated by the Swedish airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).

This is one of the most iconic maps published in the history of aviation. The spiral-polar projection it uses was created exclusively for this Swedish airline. This peculiarity allows it to effectively represent all the routes operated by SAS at the time, especially the route between Copenhagen and Tokyo, crossing the North Pole and stopping in Anchorage, Alaska.

The map also has a striking artistic touch by placing an aircraft at the top, leaving the illusion that the map itself is nothing more than the wake of the plane.
