Antarctica and the Southern Ocean (2011)

This map, published by the Australian Antarctic Division (Australian Antarctic Division) in 2011, represents Antarctica and its surrounding sea, known as the Southern Ocean or Antarctic Ocean.

The exposed continental landmass of Antarctica (not covered by ice) is shown in orange. The rest is shown in white, with shades of violet in regions where there are significant differences in elevation. The dotted lines represent contour lines, which connect points of equal elevation. The highest peaks are marked with dark blue dots, and all the stations of the different countries are marked with purple dots.

Beyond the continental boundaries, the ice floe extending beyond the continental mass is shown in grey. The sea is represented in different shades of white and blue, depending on its depth, thus serving as a bathymetric map of the Southern Ocean.

In the newsletter, I discussed the discovery and conquest of Antarctica., You can read it here..
