This illustration, created by Terence Teo, represents China's population density on a three-dimensional map. To do this, Terence extracted the data available at Kontur Population with which it generates columns using a programme, with a height that represents the population density at each point.
This map of China shows the different population peaks in its most densely populated urban areas, mainly in the south and east of the country, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Xiamen, Guangzhou (Canton), Hong Kong and Chengdu. There are also marked population peaks in northern areas, such as Harbin, and in western areas, such as Urumqi.
