Global meat consumption (2025)

This map, created by Miranda Smith for the website Visual Capitalist in 2025, shows per capita meat consumption worldwide.

Meat consumption varies greatly around the world, with significant differences between countries. The countries that consume the most meat, shown in deep red on the map, are Tonga (148 kilograms), Mongolia (123 kilograms) and the United States (123 kilograms). At the opposite end of the spectrum, shown in light pink on the map, are Burundi (3.7 kilograms), the Democratic Republic of Congo (4 kilograms) and Bangladesh (4.4 kilograms).

At the bottom of the illustration, there are also four tables detailing which countries consume the most meat of each type:

  • Beef: Argentina (46 kilograms), Zimbabwe (44.4 kilograms) and the United States (38 kilograms).
  • Pork: Croatia (57.4 kilograms), Spain (56.5 kilograms) and Montenegro (53.5 kilograms).
  • Chicken: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (94.1 kilograms), Tonga (90.6 kilograms) and the Marshall Islands (74.8 kilograms).
