This map, created by Christina Kostandi for Visual Capitalist in 2021, shows per capita alcohol consumption around the world.
The types of alcohol and their consumption vary greatly between different regions of the world. European countries lead the way in consumption, with eight countries among the ten that consume the most alcohol in the world (24 of the 30 countries with the highest consumption are also European). Some way behind are Oceania and North America.
At the opposite end of the spectrum are countries such as Bangladesh, Kuwait, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and many others where alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.
