This map was published in Bilbao in 1938. It was printed by Artes Gráficas Grijelmo, and the cartography was probably done by Centro Gráfico Iris, as indicated in the lower right-hand corner. The printing was authorised by the provincial propaganda office of Vizcaya.
The map shows the progress of the Spanish Civil War from the perspective of Franco's side. The different colours indicate the advance of Franco's troops over the years:
- In pink, the territory that rose up in July 1936.
- In blue, the territory conquered by Franco's army until the end of 1936.
- In yellow, the territory conquered by Franco's army in 1937.
- In green, the territory conquered by Franco's army until July 1938, when the map was published.
- In white, the territory that was still in Republican hands in July 1938.
The map, intended for propaganda purposes, was published in July 1938 to celebrate the second anniversary of the coup d'état, or national uprising, as it was called in Franco's propaganda. On the right-hand side, you can also see slogans commonly used by the rebel army and a direct salute to Francisco Franco.
