Belief in life after death (2022)

This map, created by Arciom Antanovič, shows the percentage of people who believe in life after death in each country in the world, according to data provided by World Values Survey between 2017 and 2022.

The author uses different colours to show the different percentages of people who answered affirmatively that they did believe in life after death, while the remaining percentage covers the rest of the options, both those who did not answer and those who said they did not believe in it.

China stands out as having the lowest number of believers in the afterlife, with only 11.5 %, followed by Albania (22.7 %), Bulgaria (25.0 %) and Nicaragua (25.6 %). At the opposite end of the spectrum is Bangladesh, with 98.8% %, followed by the Maldives (98.3% %), Morocco (96.2% %) and Libya (95.2% %).

Broadly speaking, it can be observed that countries with Muslim majorities have a high number of people who believe in life after death. There is also a notable difference between America, with percentages close to 70%, and Europe, with percentages around 40%.
