Destination of European migrants (2015)

This map, created by the illustrator Jakub Marian, shows the most common country of destination for emigrants from each European country, according to data provided by the United Nations in 2015.

Each destination country is marked with a different colour, with significant diversity:

  • In green, Germany, the favourite of nine countries.
  • In maroon, Russia, the favourite of five countries.
  • In brown, France, the favourite of three countries.
  • In light blue, Italy, the favourite of three countries.
  • In dark blue, the United Kingdom, the favourite of three countries.
  • In blue, Sweden, the favourite of three countries.
  • In yellow, Spain, the favourite of two countries.
  • In light brown, Australia, the favourite of two countries.
  • In pink, Turkey, the favourite of two countries.
  • In Coral, Serbia, the favourite of two countries.

In general terms, most of the favourite countries are also in Europe, with the exception of Australia (Malta and the United Kingdom) and the United States (Germany).
