Central America on the move (2023)

This map, created by Mir Rodriguez Lombardo y Gabriela Fenner in 2023, it was published in the magazine Centroamérica.

The illustration focuses on the human and natural aspects of Central America, which is why the authors have deliberately chosen not to depict the borders between the different countries. Instead, they use figures from the work of Salvadoran painter Maya Salarrué to show the most populated areas of the region, such as the capitals.

Using the same figures, on white arrows, the map also includes the routes taken by migrants in search of a better life. In an attempt to normalise population movements, the authors also incorporate the migratory routes of Sabine's gull, the lizard hawk and the leatherback turtle.
