This detailed map, created in 2023 by Gustav Ståhlberg, shows the political situation in Europe in the year 1550.

The Habsburg Empire extends its rule across Europe, including much of Italy and the Holy Roman Empire. At this time, the counterpoint is provided by the Kingdom of France, which maintains an alliance against the Habsburgs with the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans spread throughout the Balkans and almost reach the heart of Europe.

The map shows the Holy Roman Empire, marked with a red line, which at that time was under the rule of Emperor Charles V.
