This map was created by illustrator Eugene Majied. It was originally used by the Nation of Islam organisation in its newspaper. Muhammad Speaks in 1967 and subsequently reused in The Final Call in 1987.
The Nation of Islam is an American religious and social organisation founded in the United States in 1930. Its purpose is to promote the precepts of Islam among the African American population.
This satirical map was published as part of an issue bearing the name The Troubled World (The turbulent world). The illustration shows a snake slithering across and strangling the populations of every continent in the world, whose head is depicted in the United States with features similar to those of Uncle Sam.
The title of the map refers to a verse from the Book of Revelation, 12:9, which in English reads: «And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.«In this way, the map seeks to equate Uncle Sam, the personification of the United States government, with the devil.
In the lower right corner, as a solution, he suggests that God, Muhammad, and the precepts of Islam are the medicine that cures the world of a poisonous snake like this one.
