Jewish imperial aspirations in the Middle East (1967)

This map, drawn by Issa Nakhleh, is part of a pamphlet published in August 1967 by the Arab Higher Committee entitled Jewish Neo-Colonialism and Wars Against the Arabs (Jewish neocolonialism and the wars against the Arabs).

The authors of the pamphlet claimed that this map is a copy of a map found during the Second World War in the safe of the Rothschild family home in Frankfurt, Germany. There is no record or trace of the alleged original map, although there are records of other Zionist maps with much lesser aspirations, such as this one. example from 1947.

The intention of the pamphlet in general, and this map in particular, was purely propaganda. After the Six-Day War, Israel had permanently occupied Palestine, and the Arab High Committee sought to convey the threat that Israel posed to the other Arab countries in the Middle East. To this end, the map uses three colours to describe the situation:

  • Grey, the territory occupied by Israel prior to 1967.
  • Red, the territory occupied by Israel in 1967, mainly Palestine.
  • Yellow, Israel's alleged aspirations, including Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, the Sinai, the Nile Delta and part of Saudi Arabia.

The rest of the pamphlet, which is 46 pages long and contains 29 additional photographs, is more of an attack on Zionism than on the Jewish community itself.
