This map was published by Spanish publicist Matías Alonso Criado in 1888, as part of a brochure intended to promote Paraguay in Spain.
The map shows Paraguay with the territorial boundaries it had in 1888, so it does not yet show the territorial gains it made in the north-west after the conflict with Bolivia in the Charco War (1932–1935).
In addition to the general map of Paraguay, there is also a detailed map of Asunción, the capital, in the top right-hand corner, and a sketch of the River Plate in the bottom left-hand corner.
