This map, created by Abel Gil Lobo for El Orden Mundial In 2023, it shows the territorial division of Turkey, with its 81 provinces, the capital, Ankara, and some of the most important cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Konya, Antalya, Adana and Erzurum.
Most Turkish provinces are named after their capital, with three exceptions: Kocaeli, whose capital is İzmit; Sakarya, whose capital is Adapazarı; and Hatay, in the far south, whose capital is Antakya. Interestingly, Hatay was also the last territory to be incorporated into the country, having formed part of the French Mandate of Syria until it became part of Turkey in 1939.
