Topographical map of the island of Puerto Rico (1886)

This map, published by brothers Charles B. Colton and George Woolworth Colton, shows the territorial administration of Puerto Rico in 1886.

In 1886, Puerto Rico was still under Spanish rule. The map shows the territorial administration of the island, divided into seven departments: Bayamón, Guayama, Humacao, Ponce, Mayaguez, Aguadilla, and Arecibo.

On the left, you can also see the island of Vieques, which at that time was also a Spanish dependency and, after the Spanish-American War, became part of the United States along with the island of Puerto Rico.

The map also shows the island's relief, highlighting the mountain range that runs across the island from east to west.
