This map, by map publisher and draughtsman August R. Ohman, was published in 1904 and shows the territorial expansion of the United States over the last hundred years, from 1804 to 1904.
Although the map's title refers to expansion over the last hundred years, the content shows all expansion since the country's independence in 1776. The map uses different colours to highlight major advances, the most important of which are:
- White: Original territory of the Thirteen Colonies (1776).
- Rosado: Territory obtained through the peace treaty with the British Empire in 1783.
- Green: Purchase of Louisiana Territory from France (1803)
- Yellow: Purchase of Florida from Spain (1819)
- Orange: Annexation of Texas (1845)
- Grey: Colonisation of the Oregon Territory (1846)
- Yellow: Cession of Mexican territory by Mexico (1848)
- Grey: Purchase of Mesilla from Mexico (1853)
- Rosado: Purchase of Alaska from Russia (1867)
