This map is part of the General Mission Atlas (General Atlas of Missions), written by Reinhold Grundemann and published by Justus Perthes in 1867.
The map shows Sierra Leone and its neighbouring regions, with a pink line marking the boundaries of the British colony. Other colours are used to highlight different populations depending on the missions operating in each region:
- Church Mission Society (in red): an Anglican organisation.
- Wesleyan Mission Society (in yellow): a Methodist organisation.
- Lady Huntingdon Connexion (in green): a Calvinist movement.
- United Methodist Free Church (in brown): a non-conformist Methodist denomination.
All these organisations operated generally in the British colonies, seeking to evangelise the colonies and bring them into each of the movements.
