Map of the unexplored world (1881)

This map appears in the first pages of the book «The Great Explorers of the Nineteenth Century», the English publication of Jules Verne's book «Les voyageurs du XIXe siècle» from 1881.

The map shows the world known to Europeans at that time, with all unexplored territories, mainly on land, shown in a darker shade. Among these, it is noteworthy that Europeans still knew very little about much of Africa, Australia and South America.
