The Round Australia Rail was a rally that covered the entire country of Australia. Its first edition took place in 1953 and was held continuously until 1958, and later sporadically until 1998. This rally was popular for its long route. This edition, in particular, covered 15,600 kilometres over 16 stages. A total of 246 cars started the race, although only 127 finished it.
