The Imperial Powers of the Pacific Ocean (1939)

This map originates from an educational map used by the History Department of the United States Military Academy. It was digitised and edited by a Wikimedia Commons user. Emok and, finally, translated into Spanish by Rowan Windwhistler.

The illustration shows the situation of the major imperial powers in the Pacific on 1 September 1939, when World War II broke out in Europe. The colours represent the different powers, and each colony is marked with the year in which they established their power:

  • France: Purple
  • United Kingdom: Yellow
  • Japan: Red
  • Netherlands: Orange
  • Portugal: Green
  • United States: Blue
