The map uses different shades of blue to highlight countries where membership is most popular (dark blue), where there is significant support (blue), and where support is residual (light blue). In general terms, the Balkans and some former Soviet republics are the states most interested in joining the European Union. According to the latest available survey, the United Kingdom currently has slight support for the Union, while in Scotland that support soars to three-quarters of the population.
