Accents in the Spanish language (2020)

This map, created by Reddit user VillalobosSand1, shows the distribution of accents in countries where Spanish is the official language, with the exception of Equatorial Guinea (which is not shown on the map).

The author of the map groups accents into large groups, including:

  • Northern Spain.
  • Southern Spain.
  • Southern Cone.
  • Bolivia.
  • Highlands.
  • Amazon.
  • Colombia.
  • Caribbean.
  • Central America.
  • Mexico.

These groups aim to bring together similar accents, although diversity can be noted from one city to another. In other divisions, it is common to find distinct groups for the accents of Chile, Paraguay, the coast of Peru, and Ecuador.
