This map, published by Landgeist in 2024, shows the rate of firearm-related deaths in South America, according to data provided by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in 2021.
The author uses a colour spectrum ranging from yellow to dark red to clearly indicate which countries have the highest firearm death rates in South America.
Venezuela tops the list, with 461.97 deaths per million inhabitants in 2021, which is practically one person in every 2,000. Colombia (188.62) and Brazil (172.13) are in second and third place, respectively. At the opposite end of the scale are Chile (17.22) and Peru (22.17) which, despite having much lower figures, only outperform Albania among European countries.
