This map, published Liang Wanmei in 2023, shows the main penguin populations in Antarctica.
The current scientific consensus is that there are still 18 species of penguins living in the world, divided into six different genera. All of these species live in the southern hemisphere, with the exception of the Galápagos penguin. This map shows the four species that inhabit Antarctica:
- Adelie penguin, in purple.
- Emperor penguin, in blue.
- Gentoo penguin o Juanito penguin, in green.
- Chinstrap penguin, in red.
Both the gentoo penguin and the chinstrap penguin live only near the Trinidad Peninsula, the northernmost part of the entire continent. In addition, these two species also inhabit the southernmost coasts of South America.
