The Shadow over England (1944)

This map was created by the German army during the Second World War and dropped over British territory in September 1944.

Leaflets for aerial distribution were very common during the Second World War, and all the powers used them for different purposes. In this case, the aim of this map was to terrify the citizens of London with the threat of the new V1 bombs.

V1 bombs were developed by Germany in the first half of 1944 and began to be launched, mainly in southern England, a week after the Normandy landings. This new weapon was launched as missiles from the coast of France, as the Luftwaffe had opted to minimise manned bombing raids due to the casualties suffered during the final months of the war.

If you would like more information about this type of propaganda, I recommend you take a look at this article on leaflets.
