This map was created by Julien Bousac, author of the blog Geographical, in 2008 as part of a collaboration with The Diplomatic World.
In the illustration, the author depicts Palestine as if it were an archipelago: he takes all the areas occupied by Israel or other countries and draws them as if they were maritime zones. In doing so, he seeks to show the difficulty of the Palestinian state in operating normally.
The colours on the map indicate the following:
- In dark green, the semi-autonomous Palestinian areas.
- In light green, the autonomous Palestinian areas.
- In orange, the Palestinian urban areas.
- In light blue, the entire territory that de facto is not part of Palestine.
- The Israeli settlements in the West Bank appear in white within the blue area.
Furthermore, the author depicts the journeys between the different areas occupied by Palestine as if they were sea routes, since they pass through areas occupied by Israel.
