Map of Western Sahara (2011)

This map of Western Sahara was published by the user. Globe-trotter on the WikiTravel website in 2011.

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, the official name of Western Sahara, is an African country located in the former Spanish colony of Spanish Sahara. In 1975, under pressure from the Polisario Front for independence and the Green March with which Morocco invaded the region, Spain abandoned the colony. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence in 1976, but currently enjoys limited international recognition, with only 82 UN members.

This map shows the area currently occupied by Morocco in stripes. The dotted line dividing the two regions corresponds to the Sahara Wall or Moroccan Wall, a series of defensive walls separating the area occupied by Morocco along a length of 2,720 kilometres.
