This map, created by Finnish painter Aarne Nopsanen, was published in poster format in 1949 to promote Finland's image abroad.
The map shows many details that describe life in Finland in the mid-20th century. Factories play a particularly prominent role in the southern part, although some cities stand out for their characteristic buildings, such as Helsinki, Turku and Savonlinna. In the northern part, the characteristic reindeer and trees are represented multiple times, and it is clear that Rovaniemi had not yet become popular as a Christmas destination.
It also includes different modes of transport for travelling around the country and even for getting there, such as boats, roads, railways and air routes.
