This map, drawn by Portuguese cartographer Domingos Teixeira in 1573, is currently kept at the National Library of France.
Among other things, this map stands out for its vivid colours and the coats of arms used to mark the territories of the various European powers around the world. This map is commonly interpreted as a guide to follow the Portuguese spice routes from the Far East, along the African coast, to the Iberian Peninsula.
In the central part is the meridian delimited by the Treaty of Tordesillas, while the eastern boundary of the map is marked by the meridian defined by the Treaty of Zaragoza.
