This map, created by Yanko Tsvetkov, can be found in the compilation Atlas of Prejudice, published in 2015.
This image, with its heavy dose of irony, shows how Italians view food in other parts of Europe. The following regions are distinguished by concentric circles:
- Actual food (central part, in yellow).
- Almost certain to eat.
- Caution is advised.
- Fattening.
- Literally tasteless.
- Aesthetically bland.
- Toxic (outer part, in blue).
Two arrows are included, pointing to the United States for «fake pizza» and to China for «fake pasta». In addition, there are some meridians and parallels with names that also provide information.
- Meridian east of Italy: “Meridian of muddy coffee”
- Meridian west of Italy: “Meridian of overcooked pasta”
- Parallel to the fair north of Italy: “Parallel of super-sized coffee”
- Second parallel in northern Italy: “Parallel of culinary despair”
- Parallel further north: “San Umberto Nobile Line” (in reference to the Italian polar explorer).
